Allen, Sheriff Dave Durant, and Jail Commander Tony Blodgett in late December. All deputies received their awards for an incident that occurred in early November at the Decatur County Jail. The Officer’s quick actions resulted in saving the life of an inmate suffering from an immediate, life-threatening injury. On November 7, 2018, Detention Officers Jessica Beagle, Levi Weakley, Doug Johnson and Christopher Marshall responded to what they believed was a disturbance in one of the holding blocks. Once on scene, it was determined that an inmate had injured himself and needed immediate medical assistance. The Detention deputies immediately requested Decatur County EMS to respond and began giving medical assistance to the inmate. Arriving at the scene, Deputy Nicholas Ronning and Sergeant Christopher Bridges with the Greensburg Police Department assisted in moving the injured inmate into a more accessible area for the medical units and provided life-saving assistance to the inmate until Decatur County EMS personnel arrived. The inmate was later airlifted by Lifeline and transported to Methodist Hospital.“Had all Deputies involved not utilized their training and quick decision making skills, the inmate probably would have died from his injuries,” Sheriff Dave Durant said. “I’m very proud of the team that we have, and this is just one of many incidents that could have ended worse than it did.”last_img
