KILCAR HOPING TO BRING THE DOCTOR BACK AFTER 22-YEAR ABSENCE FROM TOWNEY

first_imgGAA: It’s been 22 years since Kilcar brought the Donegal SFC title back to Towney and their followers are hoping that this year they can finally bridge that gap.Kilcar last won the Donegal SFC title in 1993 when they defeated local rivals Killybegs.Kilcar were inspired that day by former Donegal stars Martin McHugh and James McHugh. The current Kilcar crop are led by Martin’s sons current Donegal players Mark and Ryan, while James’s son Eoin McHugh is also a major player for Kilcar.Add in the mercurial Patrick McBrearty, Ciaran McGinley, Mark Sweeney and the evergreen Michael Hegarty and it’s easy to see Kilcar have a playing panel capable of winning the Donegal SFC title.Kilcar breezed past the challenge of Naomh Muire, Killybegs and Termon in group stages to book their place in the last eight. They face Four Masters this weekend and are hotly tipped to book themselves into the last four. Four Masters defeated Glenfin in the group stages before suffering a heavy defeat to St Michael’s in their second group game but a great display seen them defeat Cloughaneely which ensured their passage to the last eight. It has been a difficult season for Four Masters manager and former Tyrone star Ciaran ‘Dinky’ McBride and they’ve struggled in the All-County League Division One.Four Masters have been left decimated by emigration with close to a dozen players no longer available to them. One of their most high profile departures was Donegal goalkeeper Paul Durcan who transferred to Ballyboden/St Enda’s in Dublin. However, they still have Karl Lacey, Barry Dunnion and Barry Monagahan to call on and have a great championship pedigree. Kilcar won’t have it all their own way on Saturday evening, but they should have too much quality in the end for Four Masters.Verdict – KILCARKILCAR HOPING TO BRING THE DOCTOR BACK AFTER 22-YEAR ABSENCE FROM TOWNEY was last modified: September 9th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Donegal SFCGAAnewsSportlast_img
