CFCC forum gives Wilmington city council candidates one last talk before election

first_img “What jobs do you think can be brought to Wilmington,” asked CFCC student Zach Walton.Nine names are on the ballot to fill the three seats on Wilmington city council. Candidates had to tackle questions of growth, jobs, and housing in the final candidates forum at CFCC.“I think they’re definitely asking hard questions and it’s good to bring these questions to mind,” said UNCW student Eleanor Nesimoglu.“Even if it’s things that have to be handled at the state level. What do you see the city council’s role in dealing with this issue,” asked student Gabe Savits.Candidates say that will be a constant conversation if elected or returning to council. Several did agree the water issues could bring more problems to bringing more green development to a growing Wilmington.“We need to fix the infrastructure we have and buildings we have and sometimes fix those up and make them greener and cleaner instead of build more buildings,” said Nesimoglu.The forum was hosted by the schools social and behavioral sciences department. The room though was filled with a diverse crowd of people from the community.Two incumbent candidates are seeking reelection. Regardless we will have a new council member after November 7th and that’s because current councilman Earl Sheridan decided to not run for reelection.
